Yo Ho Ho and... Well, you get the idea.



Yes, there was a time when pirates were popular figures in advertisements. Oh, sure, most of those ads were for rum (clearly pitching to the target audience of pirates, who drink a LOT of rum and wannabe pirates who also drink a lot of rum) but for other things as well. Like Caribbean cruises (maybe not the best sales pitch) and candy. Okay, mostly butter-rum Life Savers, but still.

This beautiful ad hails from 1943. Sadly, I don't know who the artist is, but I'm dying to find out.

  1. Lord, what a great illustration. The 1940s and 50s were the high point of advertising art in my opinion. What a great example. I should be a museum of this stuff.
